Our prime minister made a rather strange statement recently saying what a wonderful maritime nation Indonesia has become . I sort of did a double take , Say what . Why would he say that , What about Australia's wonderful maritime history , The beautiful and practical work boats specifically designed for our waters and the possibilities of huge catches of fish and the need to get them home safely , It occurred to me that he could be softening up Australians to the idea of leasing our fishery to Indonesia , It's not exactly a new concept . Japan held a lease over our waters for five decades until they got a better deal from PNG and Solomon Island's governments and hammer our tuna while they winter in the Solomon Sea . I for one would be livid if he even suggested leasing our fishery after what government has done to our own Commercial fishing industry . I'm hoping government realizes what a crucial industry fishing really is and reinstates it and soon
