All will remember that super trawler wanting to work the southern ocean catching and processing small pelagic fish for food and oil and fish meal ,Australians stopped what would have been a great use of our resources , Making a food product from what is now largely a fish meal product. Imagine one hundred such ships working in tandum , Harvesting a million tons of tuna in the Solomon Sea every year and when you look on a map where the Solomon sea is you will realize that they are Australia's east coast tuna stocks aggregating in the warm waters to our north ,And for all we know the same is probably happening on our west coast when our tuna stocks reach Indonesian waters ,In reality the rest of the world is using Australia's fishing zone as an enormous fish farm and harvesting the fish as soon as they can legally get at them. ,If you watch the Greenpeace videos you will see that hundreds of thousands if not millions of those tuna are juvenile Yellow fin , Big eye and Albacore tuna , To add insult to injury a fair portion of that tuna is canned and marketed in Australia , The only problem with the closures is that they are not fenced and nobody told the tuna.
